Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud emphasized the need to reduce unnecessary adjournments in the Supreme Court, stating that he does not want the court to be known as a 'Tarikh Par Tarikh Court.' Chandrachud's remarks came during a hearing where he observed the significant number of adjournment slips circulated in the months of September and October. The CJI urged lawyers to refrain from seeking adjournments unless absolutely necessary, as it undermines citizens' trust and tarnishes the court's image.

 
The Supreme Court, headed by CJI Chandrachud, took note of the alarming number of adjournment slips, revealing that 3,688 such slips were circulated in the months of September and October. During the current hearing, the court noted an additional 178 adjournment slips, indicating a growing trend. Chandrachud expressed his concerns, stating, "I request the members of the bar to not seek adjournments unless really necessary." The CJI emphasized his commitment to expediting cases by monitoring the filing process and ensuring that the time between filing and the first hearing is minimized. The court acknowledged that some cases are mentioned solely for the purpose of seeking adjournments.
